Wer braucht BIM – Der Architekt

Wer will da schon zurückbleiben?

Who needs BIM? – The Architect

If I have to mention the role that needs BIM the most, then it would be the architect. Clearly, if the client wants or needs BIM, then the architect has to deliver. But this is not the only reason why the architect needs BIM. In a fast moving market it is imperative to adapt and evolve, and in this case that means implementing Building Information modeling. Worldwide, there are already several countries in which the execution of public projects must be through the BIM method. In 5 years, the BIM method will be inevitable. Who wants to be left behind? Besides, let’s not forget the benefits of adapting to this new methodology. First to mention is the time saving thanks to the reduction of double work. Until now, it was necessary to draw the floor plans, elevations and sections separately. If a window was modified, it was necessary to correct all the plans, one by one. With the 3D model this process is automated and changes are generated automatically. This process in turn offers another advantage, the reduction of sources of error. This means that by automating different information flows, such as the modification of the window, or the transfer of numerical values from the model to a table, manual processes through which human errors can arise are eliminated. Last but not least, Building Information Modeling means communication. This is an advantage we have already mentioned for the client, but the same is true for the architect. BIM methodology allows for better communication and coordination of the project, which facilitates decision making and workflow.
